    Hi,

How safe is it to browse in free wifi zones at the airport? any tips in securing my laptop?

I am thinking of using a ubuntu virtual machine on top of vista, what are the necessary precautions to further secure my machine?

Thanks for your replies in advance,
    Martin

When you connect to the free network, make sure you select Public when Vista prompts you. It will disable all file/printer sharing, which will help keep your files secure. Keep the browsing limited, and if you must do anything sensitive, make sure you use a secure connection, ie: https. Make sure you have a firewall running (Vista built-in or third party), and that your antivirus is up to date.
