Hey guys, I am getting frustrated. My computer doesn't seem to like to connect to my network anymore. I can connect fine to every other network, and all of my other computers connect fine to my network, but my laptop does not get along with mine. When it is connected, it is literally half as fast than the other computers connected, and the specs are equal to or better than the others. Do I need a new router? I'm running an old Linksys Wireless "b" model. I'm thinking about getting the WRTG model with the linux firmware. I've heard this is the best one for the money. But my question is, will this solve my problem? And will it let me share my bandwidth better between my network? Sorry, I'm clueless when it comes to networking.

I've had a few Linksys routers go bad on me in the past...I'd consider resetting it to factory settings to see if that helps. If not, it is probably toast.

I'm thing you are comparing 11b to 11g, the reason for the speed difference. I'm not sure i would go with Linksys unless you are going to flash it with 3rd party firmware. Their performance just stinks right now, ever since they (sisco) desided to cut the ram in 1/2. I would probably go with a Dlink 4300 router right now.

I'll reset settings and then find some new firmware for it. Will my "B" router fast enough to support two computers trying to game on one network? If not, then I'll go check out the "g" routers. My friend has the same connection as me, but has the g series and his seems to be much faster. Is that just me? Thanks for all the replies so far guys.

It all depends on the game. Most all of those old 11b routers do not have much bandwidth. And some games do not play well on the newer 11g either, LAG is to great.

It's always best to use a wired connection if you are playing a 1st person game.
