Long story short, I have had internet problems with my x100e for a while. When at home I get "The default gateway is unavailable" at random, all of the time. I click "diagnose" and Windows restarts the connection and works fine, until it does it again. What is going on? The drivers are all up to date and every other device and laptop in the house never has had a single problem, not one. I know that wireless problems are a pain in the rear, so ask for information if you need it.

The wireless card is a Realtek

    Dlink is the router.

I also did a fresh install and this problem still happens, so I want to say it's the router at fault but other devices never had a problem with it......

    Thanks in advance.

Saying "Realtek" is your Wifi card is like saying Honda is your car. We'll need specifics. What are the models of the Wifi and the D-Link router?

But in any case, do the problems go away when you're closer to the router? Any problems when wired?

Realtek offers driver updates on their website (although you need to know the specific chip used on your card) and D-Link offers not-necessarily-reliable firmware updates.
I'd start with Realtek drivers and disabling power management for Wi-Fi card and only if this doesn't work would I go for a firmware update on D-Link.

Getting the Realtek drivers seems to be impossible. I have a driver from June and Lenovo thinks that is the latest driver. Whenever I update it with the device manager, it says that I already have the latest one. I also tried using automatic setup with the Realtek drivers from the site and it never actually installs the new drivers. It says it does, but doesn't.

    Realtek name: rtl8191se
    Dlink name: dir-615

The download speed I get from Realtek servers is terrible so I'm gonna type this while waiting for the drivers to download. Realtek installers can be opened by WinRAR so just extract the installer, go to device manager, choose to update manually and choose the option that allows you to choose the driver- show all drivers-> from disk-> choose the info file in the unpacked-driver folder (or something along that lines).
You should see multiple cards by Realtek- at least 8191 and 8192 and SE version of one or both cards. Choose yours and ignore the warning that Windows cannot verify if driver is compatible.
The reason you can't install it automatically is the inf file shows Realtek hardware IDs while your card most likely has Dell's hardware ID so according to Windows it's not the same card. Basically all manufacturers use reference designs so it's the very same card and drivers should work fine- worst case scenario- you just roll back a driver.

EDIT: Download is finished @ 7KB/s- you don't have to even extract it and as I suspected Dell is not listed so- that's why installer doesn't work. Do it manually.

I did as you said, but the driver still says it's not been updated. I selected the different types it gave me to select, most worked but the date of the driver never changed. The only thing the changed was the name of adapter.

Maybe Dell provided the same driver- what's the date you have?

Well- that's the same one. Now you have Realtek flavored driver in the exact same version that Dell provided you with.
Chances of this solving your problem are rather slim though.
You may give it a chance and if the problem persists downgrade a driver.
Is that something that was always happening or started recently?

Its always been off. Never had this exact problem till recently. After some googling, many people are having problems with this card and the only real fix seems to replacing it with an Intel card.(Or like card) Another problem is Lenovo's lack of driver updates.

If it's something that started recently it may be caused by a driver- try to get gold of something older (or roll back a few times)
Sorry for that Dell thing- I have no idea how did I come up with that when you clearly wrote Lenovo. I gotta get my head checked ;)

Dell, Lenovo, same thing. :p My school has a great IT department and the school has a contract with Lenovo. I may just let them suffer with it and see if they figure out how to fix it. Worse comes to worse I'll just buy an Intel wireless chip and solve problem all together. Thank you for taking time out of the day to try and help me. :)
