    Hi guy's,

I am about to buy a indoor omni-directional antenna to increase the coverage of my wireless network. I wonder if you guy's can help me choosing one. What I want is to get the best indoor omni-directional antenna possible.

    Thanks for any input.

You can go and search Ebay for omni-directional antenna. There are many to choose from. In my experience the optimal ones would be the HiGain type. But if what you are thinking is increasing coverage of a regular house floor area, I suggest getting the new generation of WiFi APs or Routers -- Mimo, RangeMax, Draft-N forms which are found in the more popular brands. My pick D-Link, Netgear, Linksys, Belkin. They are backward compatible and signals are excellent in most cases thereby minimizing blind spots. One caveat though, these new generation wide-coverage AP/WiFI Routers have fixed/non-detachable antennas.

Furthermore, we should not be taken by manufacturer hype, more often than not their product claims are for ideal situations which are far from the ordinary. In all cases remember actual speed is one thing and coverage range is another.

Stay away from the 11n and MIMO routers. It will be 9 mo or better before the 11n spec is finalized. The mimo (and 11n) require that you have matching hardware on your NB side.

All you need is a 7-9 dbi high gain antenna, these sell for ~$30. Most come with adapters to fit most routers. Some have a 3-5' pig tail so you can set it away from the router.

But if your AP inside your NB is not any good it will not make any difference. I have a Raylink 2500 and it has a range of about 10' max. I moved over to a pcmi card, now can cover my whole house on low power.
