Would it be possible to take the sim card out of the Iphone and use it in a data card when needed?

i dont understand what your asking exactly. check your grammar, it sounds like you want to stick a sim card inside an sd card or something. if you want to put a microsd card in a sim card spot, then that is also pretty crazy. ive never heard of anything like that and i doubt you could find anyone whos done it on the physical or software level.
it IS possible to upgrade the memory in other ways on an iphone, depending on your model, ive heard. but youd have better luck going to brighthand, or a dedicated IPhone forum.

if you have a laptop with the cellular modem it will likely work but know that he amount of data that you will burn with your laptop vs. your phone will be very different and when they notice(and they will) they can and will charge you the full per kb amount.

Their plan does say up to 5gb of data. So they can do anything until you go over that amount. And just basic web browsing won't use up that much.

I am researching this topic as well. Not sure what niffcreature is talking about.. Your grammar was fine, and question is quite logical. I just purchased a Lenovo S10 with a wwan card in it from eBay (new for US$260, + bing 10%CB, great price). The Lenovo S10s that had wwans were tethered to AT&T service. I have an iPhone 3G S with AT&T as well, and am planning to see if I can use my AT&T iPhone sim with my netbook...

Unfortunately I have found no other information about this yet, but I will make a note to report back with my success or failure.

Currently I use about 1-2 GB of data per month through my iPhone (thanks, Pandora), but I only wish to check email on travel... So the data limits won't be particularly concerning for me.

UPDATE: I did find this: http://www.everythingicafe.com/forum/at-and-t/iphone-sim-card-in-unlocked-novatel-card-26884.html

i had a sim card that had a data plan and used to swop it between my phone and modem but after a few times the card holders were getting a little bit loose. the actual card holders are very flimsy (esp my htc phone) and are not made to be removable. just take care really.
