Are the TP-Link Gigabit switches any good really? They seem extremely inexpensive compared to the likes of Linksys or D-Link. I like my 5 port D-link metal case switch but I need an 8-port, and for $25 it seems a bit cheap, but quite favorable Amazon reviews.

While I don't have a direct answer to your question, I'll say this much:

    a) All the TP-Link products I've used - wireless cards and routers - were above decent in my opinion.

    b) As I'm certain that you know yourself, a Gigabit switch is really not an overly complex piece of technology. I see no reason why theirs wouldn't work as well as anything made by Linksys and especially D-Link...

    My $0.02 only...

I agree with ajkula66. Admittedly their hardware is usually very cheap but they punch way above their weight as far as quality is concerned.

Also even in rare cases where something goes wrong they do offer proper customer care - like when it turned out that Archer C7 v1 had a faulty radio chip that Atheros simply dropped - TP-Link released v2 with newer (fixed) chip but at the same time fiddled with V1 for as long as it took them to make it working properly (they have released 10 beta and two official firmwares for it). In the US they also exchanged V1 for V2 for everyone who complained.

I have one or two of these, and haven't had any issues with them so far.

We use TP-LINK products at my workplace. No issues with the 8-port switch. However, the router I have connected to my PC ( this one, in case you're curious) drops connection evey few days, requiring a power cycle. Not just mine, but the other ones around the office as well, so I assume it's a common problem.

At home, I have't had any issues with my Archer C7 V2.

I have one behind my media center and have not had any issues with it. Got it for less than $20 on sale.

TP-Link stuff is like cheap wine. Cheap wine is good, because it's good and it's cheap. ;)

I can highly recommend, they've got the price point right and nothing to complain about hardware wise.
