Hey guys, I was just wondering if anyone here uses the program Synergy and how it's working out for you. I tried to set it up myself but it didn't work so I'm still trying to figure it out.

I didn't know what it was either and so I did a little google search and came up w/ THIS. Sounds pretty cool minus the security issue....

I use it extensively and it is extremely useful for those with multiple computers. My server is also my Synergy server so I have my diNovo and MX Revolution hooked up to it. This allows me to use it across all my computers. I can do my work on my desktop and immediately switch to my laptop to look at some notes by just moving my mouse from one screen to the other. Works across platforms too. I have it working on Windows, Linux and OSX.

As for security Synergy is designed to be used behind a router. So if someone is sniffing packets within your router you have more security issues than just Synergy lol.

So in essence you need two Monitors then?

With a KVM switch one monitor would suffice.

More like you need two computers each with a separate display. Since this is a notebook forum say you got your notebook and a desktop computer. This will let you use both as if they were a single computer. If you have such a setup definitely try it out, it is VERY handy.

Hey Lixuelai, how did you set up your server and client? I've been trying to figure this out for 2 days now and I'm still stuck. I have tried using the IP addresses instead of using computer names and all that with no luck.

You said that it's meant to run behind a router, does this mean i need to forward the 24800(?) port that Synergy uses? If so, what should I put for the IP address.

    I'm a total networking noob :/

Well, I've got a linksys router through which I'm connected wirelessly and no physical firewalls.

Is this what you were asking for?

Okay, I got it to work! I have no idea how, I played with so many different things that I kinda got lost and then I just tried it and it worked haha

So far, it's been a great program! Only thing is that it doesn't support graphics tablets and your cursor is super sensitive when you move it to the other screen using a tablet.
