I signed my mother up for AT&T dsl internet (i'm renting a house accross the street from her and have no interest in getting a land line phone), and I am very satisfied with the quality of the service and the price I'm getting it at. Just like my title states though, I was stuck with a very crappy wireless router. The signal only has to travel maybe 80 feet max with nothing in the way (I can literally see the router from my computer room), and I just barely get a signal.

Just wondering what my options are for this. Could I buy a better router and bypass the AT&T router? The phone line plugs directly into the router, so its like a modem and router all-in-one unit. I know some people talk about flashing certain routers and basically making range boosters, but I wouldn't know where to begin with this (would this even help anyway?)

If your the only user, get a high gain beam antenna and point it at your house, Provide you can replace the antenna.

You can request a modem only and provide your own router. When I set my mother-inlaw up with AT&T DSL she had to buy her own equipment. I had them just get the modem, and I provided a router. That was 3 yrs ago.
