I seem to have a strange slow down with my new BCM43228 Card ( BCM943228HMB ) , on my main router, I get this strange slow downs, only when uploading from the laptop, and it requires me to pause, wait a couple of seconds, then continue the transfer, and the speeds appears to have recovered nicely. but after a few seconds of transfer on high speed it happen again ...

My router is a 7 years old router, 3com OfficeConnect ADSL Wireless 11g Firewall Router ( 3CRWDR101A-75 )

Regardless of this slow down, the ping times seems stable enough to keep a connection open. and also, the download speeds do not show any similar slow downs.

The wireless card seems to work fine when connected to other access points created on other laptops.

The router works fine with other wireless cards.

    using windows 8.1u1

    This is the issue:

I have a Broadcom WiFi on my Windows 7. The slowdown might be due to power settings on Windows 8.1

You can try these settings to minimize power saving on WiFi and see if it helps:

On your Broadcom advanced settings, disable "Minimum Power Consumption", enable xpress technology, 11a/b/g:20/40 MHz on bandwidth capability.

On Windows power options, set the wireless adapter power savings to "maximum performance" on both battery and plugged in. Also, turn off "link state power management" on the PCIE Express on both battery and plugged in. Finally, disable USB selective suspend on both battery and plugged in.

Thanks cbautis2 for the reply, but nothing seems to help.

I also noticed, that during bluetooth transfers, my wireless drops, which is not a big deal, but still annoying.

I am uploading now more screen shots:

the 1st showing the network speed of 2mbps, which is the speed the card always gets stuck on.

the 2nd showing that trying to doing a READ(download) from the network result in getting out of the stuck slow speed.

If you can find and load the Microsoft's drivers, try that since it may help with stability. I believe Microsoft's drivers is version 6.30.223.102

Try the driver lists on the device manager and see if you can load that driver. Check and see if upload issue persists. As for bluetooth, it's interfering with WiFi if it drops. The best solution is to use the 5 GHz band to avoid issues with Bluetooth. Even Intel cards have problems coexisting with Bluetooth when connected at 2.4 GHz band.

FYI, I also use Microsoft's driver on my broadcom 802.11g router and it never needs updating since it performs at 802.11g limits (15 - 20 Mbps) as well as perfect WiFi stability though I use a 2.4 GHz USB mouse instead of bluetooth mouse

    I tried drivers versions:
    3/8/2013
    6.30.59.132

    8/6/2013
    6.30.223.143

    5/31/2013
    6.30.223.102

with no lock, all behave exactly the same,

Once the speed hits 2mbps, it is stuck there.

its worth mentioning, that even during slow downs, ping seem stable, i kept pinging the whole day, and this is the result:

Have you tried completely disabling Bluetooth on device manager and see if it helps?

No more ideas for me though. I do think it's Windows 8.1u1 since many WiFi issues with any of adapter brands (Intel, Broadcom, Qualcomm Atheros) are having connectivity problems. Well, you can try a cheap dual band router as access point and see if the Broadcom is stable at 5 GHz.

Actually i did try that too :D :D

tried on windows 7 pro SP1, with drivers version 6.30.223.170, same behavior exactly, although i didn't try to change any power settings or advanced settings.

How can I report a bug in the firmware or driver to broadcom ? is it possible ?

I didn't try the 5ghz band yet, but i think it will work,

This 2mbps issue is definitely affected by interference, since it happens more aggressively in day time, and at night time, it rarely happen.

even though this problem seems to be very affected by interference, (as i explained in my last post) ..

trying this card with an access point created on a laptop with BCM4311, the speed goes down to 1~2 mbps, and could get stuck there for 20 seconds, but then it automatically recover again without any issues and eventually reach 48~54mbps connection speed, and it keeps going up and down, which is normal.

using the BCM4311 as an accesspoint, the throughput during day time maximum is 16mbps, while at night it could reach 24mbps, due to interference i suppose.

So this issue is affected by interference, AND with a specific router/access point ..

I wish there were more advanced settings to play with, i think this issue is not a huge one, just need adjustment to let the card escape from the low speed.

    and regarding Bluetooth..

I tried it again, doing file transfer while on a skype call, both the bluetooth and wifi didn't drop ! , but it resulted in higher ping times, (up to 2000msec), and few ping drops, and the skype call stuttered considerably, and needed to be re-connected in the middle of the call.

re-tested bluetooth file transfer, while changing some advanced settings to their default,

during bluetooth file transfer i get this ping results to my wifi router:

    Reply from 192.168.123.1: bytes=32 time=26ms TTL=64

    Reply from 192.168.123.1: bytes=32 time=2ms TTL=64

    Ping statistics for 192.168.123.1:
    Packets: Sent = 218, Received = 218, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
    Minimum = 1ms, Maximum = 77ms, Average = 14ms

Bluetooth file transfer speed falls to 50%~75% while the wifi is open, I need to turn wireless off to get good bluetooth transfer speed

Setting both "fragmentation threshold" and "RTS threshold" to 1500 seems to help with the problem quiet a bit, uploading throughput decreases to 60% of the normal, but it doesn't get stuck at 2mbps for too long.

    Also,

Tried Linux-mint 17 - which is based on ubuntu 14.04 - and got the same behavior as described on my first posts.
