    Hi,

I have a very strange issue with two Acer TravelMate 5530.

They both cannot access a particular external hosting server. My company has 2 websites hosted with an external company and I cannot access either website or the hosting provider's website. Every other website works fine.

I can ping the server and get near perfect responses.
I have tried uninstalling/reinstalling and updating drivers.
I have removed anti-virus and firewall but still no joy.
I have tried different browsers and nothing.

    Anyone got any ideas.

    Specs:
    Acer TravelMate 5530
    Windows XP SP3
    2GHz AMD Dual Core
    3GB Ram

    Any help please?

I am stuck with this and don't know what to look at. Other than this issue the laptops were fine. It seems a shame to bin them

Run an scan with malwarebytes, if that doesnt fix it then try looking at DNS and other routing settings in your browser. Since you didnt mention which you have check them all. Also are you connecting via wire or wireless?

Ran Malwarebytes and Spybot scans which turned up nothing.

DNS and routing tables are all normal/default.

It happens when I connect both ways - wired and wireless.

    Anything else?

Has it been added into your Personal FW block setting by accident. Does using the IP address vs dns name work?

By any chance are the servers configured for https and you're trying to open the site with http? And another question, what happens if you try to http(s)://ip-address-of-the-website?

Blue68f100 - Unfortunately it is not blocked in my firewall settings.

ATG - no to https and same thing happens when using ip-address of the website.

This is not just happening for one website. It happens for all websites hosted with our hosting company including their site.

    Thanks for your help.

Just for kicks, try setting your MTU down to 1492 or lower on your router. Years back I had problem with sites having problem. Lowering the MTU fixed it. Apparently auto was not working on the router.

If it's a MTU issue it would affect randoms sites, not just one.

@OP Are both machines using the same internet connection, same ISP? Would it be possible to connect to another ISP and try to open the site?

    Hi again,

Both machines are being used in our office so same internet connection same ISP but this happens for no other PC or laptop in the office.

I have also tried using them outside the office connecting to free wifi and at my house. The original users of these machines have also tried them at home on wired and wireless connections.

So they have been tested on many different connections but with the same issue each time.

Thanks for your help guys, it is one of the strangest problems I have come across and actually worries me that other users of our websites have the same issue.

I think it may be time for a clean install of the OS.
