Hello. I have a P170EM from Malibal.com with a stock wireless card. I have been having a few problems lately with my connection being dropped and latency/teleporting issues in games. I bought the laptop for gaming and college(yeah i know) and my router is a WNDR3700v3 from Netgear.

When i play Natural Selection 2 my latency usually ends up making me teleport or have a delay. I usually keep a 70ms latency to close servers but today i had about 120ms and it would shoot between 90-160. When i play in APB Reloaded i keep a steady 60-70ms but every few seconds i would teleport a few feet in front of me, or whichever direction im moving.

My connection keeps a steady 3-5 bars but drops in speed from 14.5mb/s to 29mb/s almost constantly. It usually stays at 21.5mb/s. I have a 3MB internet and only get 325kb/s down. When i had my desktop i never had any issues with teleporting or losing connection because it was wired of course.

Now my question is should i upgrade to a different wireless card? I have been looking for a few days and it seems there are only a few that i can really use. I want an internal wifi card or something that is better. I was looking on the MALIBAL.com site for what they would have let me pick besides stock and i searched for an intel wireless card and i found this:

    http://www.amazon.com/Intel-6235AN-...etooth/dp/B007QXLIWI/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top

Now can you let me know if this will help with my problems?

Also i don't know if it will fit in my laptop. Its a 17."

    http://www.amazon.com/6230-IEEE-802-11n-draft-Bluetooth/dp/B004PG08SE/ref=pd_cp_pc_1

    I also found this...

Sorry for the wall of text i needed to be very specific.

if you upgrade the signal can be better but the problem could remain. maybe it's an ISP problem, maybe there's something interfering with the wifi signal. download "inssider" and try to see what happens.
about those cards, don't known what's the "stock" card you have so we can't compare them. but any mini pci-e card will work.

I have a Realtek RTL8723AE WLAN + Bluetooth combo card. I have no problems with a wired connection from my router to my PC. But ethernet is not an option...

debugging latency issues is really a pita, it can be the router, wireless channels affecting your router, or wireless card (ISP is out of the question if you're saying there's no problem while wired).

I suggest borrowing a router, changing the channel to a less populated one and see first if it's still happening, gonna be a waste if you upgraded your card and still get lag spikes because of other reasons.

I would use 5GHz band that is available on the router but probably not on a stock Wi-Fi card.
So upgrading Wi-F- to an Intel 6230 and moving at least this laptop to 5GHz band should do the trick (assuming you're not far from the router)

The router is 3-4 rooms down and a floor above me. Networking is my weak spot with PCs because i never have had to deal with it. But how would i go about doing what you said "Downloads?" The router i have shows this: http://puu.sh/1IBT2

Should i upgrade my card to the intel one you said and edit a setting or something?

Well, wireless signal fades with distance and 5GHz fades faster, in your case, that could become an issue. That said, an Intel NIC might still be a good investment, in my experience, they are more reliable than most other wireless adapters. so far out of all the wireless adapters i've had, the Intel ones have been the best at network transfers. I haven't tried the killer cards because I've stuck with Intel so far. cheaper Atheros, Broadcom and Realtek, I did try and they didn't perform as well as th Intel cards under Windows.

A 6xxx intel card should always get you better reception compare to stock. I think you are getting enough bandwidth , so it is possible 2.4ghz interference cause the spikes.

And definitely use inssider and take a look at wireless network around you.

There is only one other network near this laptop that has the same/ slightly worse connection. I changed the channel to one that isnt being used. If i keep having problems ill pick up one of the intel cards.

Well i ordered the Intel Advanced 6235 and intially had problems with STILL a low signal. I moved my router to the other side of the room so its closer to me. I get 3-4 bars now constantly. I still get a spike every now and then but its not a connection loss. More of a double in latency for a split second. Much easier to manage then simply teleporting. The 5ghz connection is available but only has 1-2 bars. Thanks for all the help guys and just wanted to post about what i did :p
