I bought a Toshiba P100- st9012 recently and ahve loved it. Unfortunately the only problem I am having is i keep getting random disconnects on my wireless. It can be a few hours or a 30 minutes but eventually it will discnnect me. When it disconnects I can usually repair the connection and reconnect, but sometimes I have to actually restart the router. This is very aggravating because I play Online games a lot and it boots me form the server.

I had a computer tech friend of mine come set it up andI thought it was fixed but its still doing it. I ahve the windows wireless disbaled and am using the Intel part. Even with the one disabled could it still be causeing problems? If I plug the laptop into the router manually it works fine, so its only wireless. Any ideas on what I could check, I want to get this taken care of, cause its a pain.

Most likely it's an issue of "wireless card doesn't like router". What model wireless adapter and router are you using? Have you updated your router's firmware to the most recent release?

If you don't have problems using other wireless networks, that would help determine if the router is the problem.

I've heard of problems between Netgear and Intel. Try a different wireless network to see if you still have problems.

for me, wireless & gaming never appear in the same sentence. if at all possible, try to run an ethernet cable to the computer...you will have a much better time playing and you wont have to worry about random disconnects as much. even just for downloading ive found that it is very shady..could be my old crappy linksys bewf11s4 router, but i alos tried a belkin bre-n + a wrt54g/s and was still the same result.

    pb,out.

Update to latest firmware. Turn off all speed booster (Afterburners etc) on both the router and the card. Disable all packet bursting. Hopefully this will fix it. This router uses an Atheros chipset which doesnt play nice with Broadcom based Intel ones (which is why you need to turn off all those stuff). Also set up a MAC filter and static IPs if you can. Make sure the router is sitting vertically. It gets pretty hot sometimes.

p.s. You can game fine on wireless if you get the setup right. Use your card to scan for surrounding networks and see which channel (1,6,11) is best (lowest # of routers on that band and/or lowest signal). If lucky find a Japanese firmware for your card and router (very rare lol). That will let you select channel 14 which is guaranteed to be empty :p) I had a really old Netgear router and wireless b router. Never had latency problems.

I use a Panasonic Toughbook with built in wireless for my job and for all the money this thing costs I get freezes and random disconnets every so often. My other laptop with a PCMCIA wireless card has had no issues ever. For whatever reason the router doesn't like my TB or the other way around. We just wired the house with CAT-6 so it's all moot now. I just think for whatever reason some pieces of hardware just don't like each other sometimes. I know that's not a very "scientific" explaination but sometimes the simplest answer is the best one.
