    Hi,

This "problem" has concerned me for awhile. When I transfer files from my notebook to my external Ethernet hard drive via the wireless network the speed never seems to max out. I guess this is due to some part of the system, but I can?t figure out which....

This is a picture of a transfer:

    My setup is:
    Pc as in signature
AirPort Express 54Mbit/s wireless access point
    D-Link 604 router
LaCie Big mini Ethernet hard drive

The weak link in the above should be the wireless part, but I am in a ?Line of sight? situation with the base station so the speed should be higher.

Could anyone give me an explanation to why the speed doesn?t reach 50% (which I guess is the max. when only transferring in one direction?)

    Have a nice weekend!
    Fiffy

Nobody bitting eh ...well I 'll give it a go. I have read of issues when transfering large files wirelessly - it can have to do with internal router settings and windows TCP-IP setting (such as MTU , tcpwin , etc) ....

Do you have the latest Firmware for your router ?
Latest drivers for your wireless card ?
Do smaller files transfer at 'full speeds' ?
Anything else using Bandwith from the routers stealing cycles ?
Are you using any other 2.4 Ghz devices during the transfer that might be interfering with signal ?

You might want to look at the router documentation / Admin page to see if there are any tweaks.

If the file comes over fine (uncorrupted) - just that it is slow - be forewarned about playing / changing router and or registry settings - might make a bearable situation into a non working one where you will wish you had the slowness back ....

Hahah nice disclaimer eh ? Just make sure you can always get back to where you were before any changes (be that wirting down old settings / backups / whatever)

Do you get more than 10 Mbs with wired Ethernet?
