Can someone provide the specific link to the WRT54GS v.6 firmware?

In looking around the site, I an only find v.5 flash and when I downloaded that, and try to open it, I get a message that says Windows can not open this program, or something like that.

I am VERY close to returning this Linksys, due to the dropped connections and lagging sppeds, especially when Xbox 360 is used at the same time as my PC. I don't even have a laptop hooked up yet, so I can only imagine how screwed up it will be once I do.

Can someone also explain why when I ran a speed test the other night while my son was playing xbox360 , the speed was around 8500kbps and when I just did it a minute ago (no xbox running) it is now 13644kbps?

Maybe because the XBox360 was taking up the additional bandwidth? You should run speed tests when the internet connection is not being used by anything else so you get a true reading of your available bandwidth.

    Try downloading and installing WinZip.

Binary files generally can not be opened with any program for viewing, execpt Winhex, or programmer. You can open with word but it will be total garbage. FTP programs can send the code to hardware. Binary files are machine language files.

OK, so I have no idea how to right this wrong :)

I downloaded winzip and tried to open the stuff, but came up with the same messages as before.

I am NOT a computer whiz, so can someone walk me through this?

Once the firmware is downloaded you have to upload it to the router. This is done with a ftp program. Go to WRT website, instruction for loading will be there.
