My new VGN-AR630E is having problems with its wireless connection. It's on a D-Link WBR-1310 through 11g. The WLAN frequency on the notebook is set to 2.4GHz. There are two other notebooks and one network printer hooked up to the router but they are all on wired connections.

I'm using BitTorrent, so I usually leave it on overnight. When I wake up, I see a red "X" on the wireless connection icon. I tried to reconnect, but the available wireless connection list is gone. No luck after refreshing the list nor restarting the router(using my old notebook on wired connection). Then I tried to reboot, everything seems to be closing down fine until Vista gets to the "Shutting down" screen with the busy cursor animation circle. It will stay there forever(cursor animation is still on). So I had to use the power button to bring it back up. The wireless is fine again. It has happened a couple of times, but it only happened once when I was in front of the computer using it.

I've tried updating router's firmware and fixing the power option never shut down the harddrive. The last time I checked, wireless adapter is in maximum performance in power option. Since both Vaio update site and Windows update site don't have wireless adapter driver update, I thought updating wireless adapter driver is not necessary. I can't think of anything else I can try. Any help is appreciated!

Have you tried the notebook with other routers?

It could be an heat issue causing it to drop out. Have seen it quite often on users of BT and residential routers. May want to setup a cool pad and see if that helps.

Thank you guys! My bad for not checking the power management options thoroughly. Who would have thought Vista has a new "Power Management" tab inside the wireless card hardware configuration box. Unchecking "Allow Windows to shut down wireless card to save battery power" seems to fix the problem.
