    Hi guys,

I've got a Sony Vaio FW11E and its been running smoothly for the last 6 months. Yesterday the Bluetooth disappeared from the Device Manager and Bluetooth Devices in the CP won't allow me to set discovery to active (throwing an error dialog), probably because of the lack of Bluetooth Radio in the Device Manager. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling software for my Bluetooth mouse and restoring my computer to a day before the issue began. No change though.

The computer seems to think there is no Bluetooth capability whatsoever despite it being built-in and has been running for 6 months. The last thing I did before the Bluetooth died was play Command and Conquer. I left the game and the mouse gave up.

Is there anything I can do to determine whether it is a hardware or software issue. I seem to have exhausted all software options but I am not the most PC-savvy person in the world. Is there any other way to try and force the bluetooth back on???

Oh I also have noticed that my Device Manager now lists an Unknown Device in the USB section and my system tray displays a 'USB Device Not Recognised'. I'm not sure if this is related but its definitely new.

    Thanks in advance,

    Steven.

Ah I worked out the fix. Turns out it was caused by a static buildup on the mobo or something like that. Completely shutting down the laptop, disconnecting everything (power, audio out, usb etc) and leaving it for a few minutes did the trick. Switch it back and voila the bluetooth is back.

Very odd. But maybe this might help anyone else who encounters the same problem.
