It won't even show that an ethernet chord is connected. I plug the ethernet chord in and it won't work. I know it's not the ethernet chord because I use it all the time for online gaming.

    Someone please help.

Is your network card disabled or enabled, and what are you plugging the other end into?

Click the "orbit", right click on "my computer", open "properties", click on "adveanced system settings", select "hardware" tab, then "device manager", and expand the "Network adapters" and tell me what do you see there.

When did you first notice the problem? You said that you use it all the time for gaming. Did it simply stop working all of a sudden? Try to identify what changes you might have done to your laptop. Have you tried, I know this might be stupid, with a different cable? Have you tried a different computer with the set up you have? Did you reinstall your MOBO drivers? Did you do any updates recently? I am asking all these because I had a similar problem but with my WI-FI adapter on my Amilo 1520Si. All the bells and whistles were showing the adapter working fine but I had a corrupt driver due to a stupid XP SP2 update reboot.

Bear with us, some of the things might sound ridiculous but you might be shocked that most annoying things arise because of the most obvious and stupid things :p.

What do you see when you click on them, does it say that the adapter is working properly?

That's good news, now, in the same adapter window, do this, go onto the "driver" tab and click on the driver update, and tell me what happens.

Thanks for all your help but I figured out the problem. I had the network as Public. I switched it to Private and the ethernet chord started working.

Public should have limted the communication with other computers but not with internet, public means that you are in a public zone and your system is set not to trust other computers around. If it is set to pirvate then it means you are at home and then you can trust all the computers behind the router. In no event public should deter you to connect with internet.

I Am Having The Same Problem With My Sony Vaio, The Wireless Works Fine But Not Ethernet In A Home Network, Take The Notebook To A Domain Office And The Ethernet Works Fine, I Did Notice That The Network Was Set To Public, Perhaps I Should Try Private? Any Other Thoughts?

You should have your home network set as a private network - the difference is that a "private" network is trusted by _Vista, which means that you can use functions like resource sharing (folders and printers) and network discovery; a "public" network is something like a wi-fi hotspot, where the security cannot be assured (because you don't control it) and thus has more limited capabilities under _Vista.

The setting itself should be under your network connections window, if you highlight the particular network in question. A brief description can be found here. There's also a description of the differences from the Microsoft _Vista help website here.
