Hey, so recently I had to reformat my computer, and the dude who fixedit all up said my laptop picked up the network at his job, and I can't recall for sure, but i believe that it worked picking up my network at home also..but here's the deal..

Comcast cable went down in all of FL they said a few days ago. This happened while I was fixing up my background services in services.msc. When I rebooted, there was no internet and I ended up changing all the services back to the default settings in hopes of it being fixed. It wasn't. My computer will not pick up any wireless networks in the network list and I can't even get online if I directly connect my laptop to the modem. I am on my roomates pc now, so obviously the modem adn router work...

    Any help please?

ok... Nevermind again. The damn thing isn't working again. I don't get what this is. I have reset my modem and router a million times. That won't work. I think it has something to do with my services but i changed all the services back to the original settings I believe. Is there a service or something that'll make my computer stop reading my modem/router? I am really getting frustrated with this computer.

Whoever is kind enough to give responses, please use dumby language with me. I don't know what ping is or anything like that. I need step by step. thank you

    No ideas from anyone?

What i find particularly peculiar is that I can't even connect directly to my modem through ethernet, but I'm at work right now connected to my job's router through ethernet, and it works fine...

Have you tried reinstalling the wireless card drivers?

As well, did you assign ips? Meaning, if you 'connect' to the router, whether wired or wirelessly, does it show that its connected(even if there is no traffic)?

So i uninstalled and reinstalled my wireless stuff and still nothing. My computer will not locate my router, yet my roomate does locate it. My wireless printer locates it too. I was hoping to get some help elsewhere but nothing so far... Last call for help?

OK, here is what you should look for:
    - make sure that the wireless device is enabled (for your notebook, it should be Fn + F11), the LED on the notebook should get toggled as you do the Fn+F11

    Now for the Network Connections:
    - go into Network Connections > then double-click the Wireless Network Connection
    - (in the General Tab) hit the Properties button
    - highlight Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), then hit Properties
    - make sure the IP and DNS is Obtained Automatically
    - hit OK
    - (in the Wireless Networks tab) CHECK the box that says "Use Windows to configure my wireless settings"
    - hit OK

    Now for the Services:
    - go to START menu and Run
    - Type: services.msc then hit Enter
    - scroll down the list to Wireless Zero Configurations
    - double-click on it
    - (under General tab) make Startup Type to be Automatic
    - make sure the Service Status is STARTED, (press the Start button if its stopped.)
    - hit OK, close the Services window.

Now if all went well, then you should go back into Network Connections > Wireless Network Connections
    - hit the View Wireless Networks button
    - and you should see your wireless signal (given that the Access Point/Router has the SSID Broadcast enabled.)

    Tell me how it goes.

Hey I was just wondering if you might possible know where I could find the drivers for the wireless card and the camera, since I did not get them from alienware and after a force re-format I have looked for about a combined 48 hrs to no avail. Thank You Randall EL

I have been having similar issues. I followed Gophin's steps and I still can't get an IP address when I try to connect wirelessly. I can enable my card correctly and view any available networks, but when I try to connect, my system will search for an IP address ad infinitum. And on the odd occasions it does find one, I receive the "Limited or no connectivity" popup. Reboots don't seem to solve the problem. Note, I have installed the most up-to-date drivers and reinstalled the relevant drivers before rebooting in addition to Gophin's steps and doing the ipconfig release/renew thing in DOS. Also, I cannot use my LAN connection without rebooting.

I am on a Thinkpad t42 using Windows SP2. The problems began after I upgraded from SP1. I have already performed a reformat, to no avail.

Thanks for your help. I hope to hear from you soon.

If you look at all of your networking services you only need 2-3 not the 7+ that seam to be loaded.
Try only having these loaded: (card properties, General)

    Client for Microsoft Network (req)
    Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) (req)

    File and Printer Sharing (Optional)
QoS (optional, if your using it)

Now all of the other garbage is not needed unless your using one of the optional protocols. I know my ralink card installed AEGIS and Odyssey, with these loaded it would not connect.
