I firstly thought Thinkpad owners can see how many metres they are away from different hotspots. As it turned out when i enlarged the picture, its only the signal strength, huh, makes sense.

But is there a tool that lets you see where you are, and where the hotspot (the wlan router for example) is?

    Maybe with a 3d-map.

Nearest I could think of is a directional antenna, but then that only gives you the general direction and not the actual spot.

    Hah, no, not really :p

For example your visiting your grandmother and after your arrival it gets really boring, so you try to find a wlan there (wait!). So after you found a secured / or not secured one, you want to ask the owner if you can use it while your are residenting there. But you don't know where the wlan is located... :)
