I'm using x86 Vista (or 32bit), and I have video, directx, networking, sound, and processor drivers updated to a the furthest point possible. Even before i updated the networking driver though, I had the problem of not even able to open it.

I right click on the bottom right icon and it takes about 5-10 minutes for it to give a pop-up for the option to choose "connect or disconnect" and "Network and Sharing Center". Choosing either one would result in another 5-10 minute wait for a window pop up. Anything related to wireless and internet connection takes this long to load.

    Ideas on whats going on?

New computer by the way, intel core2duo T7500 2.2ghz 4MB L2cache shouldn't be going this slow. Only happens to wireless, everything else is blazing fast.

Disable the antivirus and try again.

Vista prefers connecting to WPA(2) (Personal) secure wireless connection. Try doing a manual setup. Remove your old connections. Connect to the router (wired) and set it up with a min 20+ chr random generated key consisting of all printable chrs. While still connected add in you ssid with the proper security key. I suggest that you use copy paste for the key to eliminate errors. Also either add a rule for you local subnet. or temp disable the fw till you get a connection or results of your attempt.

I don't have an antivirus and my internet connection works pristine on LAN. I really don't want a secure wireless as it is a bit of hassle for the family. I can connect to non-secure ones as well but they're my neighbors. But this isn't the problem I'm most worried about, its the slow opening of the wireless internet configuration and connecting window. And it always says that I'm not connected to internet through LAN nor Wireless even though I clearly am (connects to friends unsecure WAP).
