I'm on a dorm network, the ISP is Road Runner Business. When I connect directly to the network I get the following speeds:

When I put my DIR-655 into the equation I get the following:

They were all wired connections, no wireless. Should the router really slow it down that much or is there another problem?

I should probably also mention that there has been a severe decrease in overall speed. These were my results from a test run last Wednesday:

Probably has nothing to do with the router.

Looks like something or other is clogging or otherwise interfering with your connection, or there is some type of issue with your system.

Did you try running the test numerous times, and replacing the router back and forth to establish that it's definitely the router slowing things down?

You should ask the tech's at your school and see if they are limiting bandwidth in some way.

I ran the test multiple times with and without the router, there was a consistent decrease in speed with the router attached.

Is it even possible to limit bandwidth by simply seeing a router in use?

The 3rd test shown is a whole separate issue.

I don't rightfully know the answer to this, I've never heard of it going the way you describe. Are sure your firmware is up to date? It could just be your router. If you can get you hands on another router test it's connection speed and see if it's the same,or take the router to a different locations and test it.

Could be a bad router, could be a bad cable to/from the router, could be interference that the router is accepting, and it could be that when you have the router hooked up other people are suddenly connecting/sharing your bandwidth and slowing you down.

    Few ideas.

I have the same router, and it runs beautifully (no slowdown).
