I have an old Inspiron 6000 laptop that I took the screen off and now use through to my TV.
I use it only for the internet and as a media server to stream videos through my ps3.
I use the PRO/Wireless 2915ABG Network Connection in the laptop, which is connected to my router wirelessly and the ps3 is connected through the LAN port with the connections bridged together. This setup work ok but the problem I am having is the signal strength on the wireless is stupidly low, reading 1.0/2.0mbps "low signal" when it is with 10/15 metres of the router.
I have another laptop that is the same position gets an “Excellent” signal and 54Mbps.
The only solutions I can think of are to either buy a usb Wi-Fi dongle (but I feel that the wireless card should work and there must be something simple I can change) or to have a wired connection into a hub the connect the laptop and ps3 separately but don’t want to drill holes and run loads of cable round my room (wife might kill me if any more cables appear!).
With the screen being off I have the aerials for the wifi in a straight line across the laptop which seems to give the best signal but it’s still really low. The longer black cable is plugged into “Aux” and the shorter white cable is plugged into “Main”. Have tried swapping the round but this seems to give the best results. Any ideas?

    Thanks in advance,

    Allan
