    I have a DSL connection... for a hefty $30 +

My downloads average 17kbps on any computer in the house... once someone watches youtube videos or downloads... its worse than dialup

Its wireless with WEP encryption and Not many people use it...

Any help? Ask anything if it will help you answer my question

Router make/model? Using a/b/g/n? Number of simultaneous connections? Everyone using the same flavor (a/b/g/n) or is there a mix on the network?

There are so many variables - you need to tell us all about the network before we can help.

    Linksys

Using g for sure... N on one laptop I believe

Simultaneous... I guess 6 at most ... usually 3 and 1 desktop (directly from the router by cable)

(others are 1 macbook, 1 mac, 1old dell with N, one new dell with g, one HP with g, and soon a m15x with N)

I was told by linksys to use MIX in the settings...

Ask me more if you need

Let me see you have a 11n router and only using wep, not very good. Switch it over to WPA and see if it works better. If your using Vista, it prefers WPA2 for best N speeds, or WPA.

Remember 11n is still draft so firmware is buggy. Check weekly for updates. Mixed mode is very poor on performance. You may get better over all performance with 11g only.

I have it done... it seems quite faster...

It asked me for WPA WPA2 (personal or enterprise) and then TKIP or AES or there was a setting with both

    Which is best?

    Do some troubleshooting:

    1. Transfer some large files from your laptop to several other computers. What kind of speeds do you get?

    2. Disconnect all computers from the network. Add one at a time, and check internet speeds as you add each computer. When do you notice the speed issues?

    3. Disconnect the router and connect your laptop via ethernet cable directly to the modem. Is there a noticeable speed increase?

    4. Check your router - does it have the ability to limit/throttle bandwidth? If it does, enabling such a system will help keep one connection from consuming all of the available bandwidth.

This should help identify if the speed issues are with the connection or your network.

    1.How do I transfer them?

Excellent!!! While im asking.. how can I create a network where I can share files?! Like from one laptop to another...

    2. We already have dont that... the only noticeable thing is that pages load a bit quicker... but no download goes faster...

    3. I have done that cable from router to laptop many times... there is speed increase... I will go test how much to be excact in a minute (should I use speedtest.net? )
4.Dont you know if WRT300N can throttle down?

    1. Create a workgroup - just make sure all computers are on the same subnet (255.255.255.0). Since you use a router, they should all have the same basic IP (eg: 196.168.1.xx). Once that's done, just have each computer join a workgroup named whatever you want. For example, my workgroup is just my last name, and all computers belong to that workgroup. In the Windows environment, just right click My Computer, select Properties, go to the Computer Name tab, click Change..., give the computer a unique name (if it doesn't have one already), enter the workgroup, click ok, then reboot when directed. I don't know the procedure for the Mac, sorry.

After that, all computers will show up in the Network list. You'll have to specifically share folders (other than the default Shared Documents in Windows) so others can have access. If you create identical users and passwords on each computer, you can disable simple file sharing and have complete access control. If you look around on this board, you should find at least two or three threads on how to create a workgroup, and you can definitely find plenty of guides on Google.

No, I have no idea what the WRT300N does, because I don't own one. Check the manual or visit the Linksys website if you don't know what it can do.
