    Hi,

I have a new wireless router (Linksys), however internet browsing is extremely slow (wireless & wired via the wireless router). When i say SLOW i mean 20-30 seconds to load a page. Speed test don't run half the time and when they do it will be on par to 56k. Search results via google seems fast. I have DSL and usually get 4800 kbs on average.

Everything is fine, if I do not use my ISP modem.

I have tried everything possible and on 2 laptops. Both are running Vista with one having a fresh install.

I have tired manually putting DNS server, updated the firmware. Adjusting the MTU size. Flush DNS cache, release/renew IP about 20 times and have turned the modem & router off when I change any settings. Tried also diable TCP IP V6 and differenct cables.

I suspect Vista is the culprit and have read many similar issues not relating to specific brand of router.

    Could anyone offer anyhelp?

I don't really care if i have wireless or wired as long as I can use the wireless router as I have more then one computer.

My guess is that you have a WRT54G router v5+ or GS. These models stink. But it should do better than that with only 1 connection.

Reset it back to factory. Do your initial setup, for your isp, clone MAC org pc used to setup account. For your wireless Vista prefers WPA(2) TKIP (personal), does not like no security. Do all setup using a wired connection. Routers do mini boots that will bump you off during setup.

If DSL set MTU to 1492

    1. Is the signal good?
    2. Wich wireless card are you running?
    3. Are the card's drivers up to date?
    4. Is Vista up to date?
    5. If you can return your Linksys and exchange for a Dlink,do it

My router is WRT54GR w/latest firmware. My Vista had all current updates.

Could you give me instruction on doing this please.."clone MAC org pc used to setup account"?

Yes I am in DSL will try 1492

Signal is good... but I experience the same problem even if I am wired to the wireless router.

LOL too late to return. I will state it appears google search results are fast but any page that load up results in 56k or worst speed.

In the ISP/WAN Setup settings you should have an advance section, should be in there.
