Should I use a router that my ISP provides? Or should I just go out and buy a good router?

It depends on what router you get, I got a d-link from my provider and i get the best download speed of any router i have bought.

Yeah it depends on the router. Do you have to pay per month for it though, like a modem?

If it is a decent router and you do not want to spend for a high end one, then sure why not if they don't rip you off by renting it.

If you want high end gear, you're better off buying it yourself, when you say router, you mean that they will supply you a modem and a router, not a combo or simply a modem right?

I avoided the router they gave me. It was only 100Mbps instead of 1Gb, and it wasn't N based or multiple stream. It depends what they try to give you, but if you care about speed go to smallnetworkbuilder and review the different routers out (I just got the e4200 and LOVE IT!!!)
