We have 1 wired and 2 wireless connections.

I believe we have the latest router offered by Cox that is also hooked up to our phone.

Which would give us the best speed and reliability?

If is it a combination, which one should we get?

I used to have ATT DSL that we bought a combo for. Honestly, I feel that having it separate is just better because you only have to replace the individual part if they break. Also, if you change to different internet provider that doesn't use the same modem type, then you still have a router to use. Also can upgrade the router if new tech comes out.

I would recommend separate devices too. For the reasons mentioned by NovaTornado and also additionally because there are no (and never will be) third party firmwares for combos (proprietary modem drivers or something)
