    Hi

    I am just curious

If I pick up my neighbors wireless conections and they are not password protected, can I share the the same internet

I do not have one set up yet, but would love to to spend $45/month for it if I can use like 10 other connections that my card laptops picks up

Or is it impossible to do

You can use any connection that you pick up. It only matters if their connection is protected or not. The most common type of encryption is WEP or the better WPA and WPA2. Some would say it is illegal but I think certain states have differing laws. I have only heard of one case where someone was prosecuted for leaching off an internet connection, but I think that person hacked the password instead of connecting to an open connection.

That is exactly what I am saying. It is not like I am breaking into somebody's internet - this thing I think belongs to my apartment building, because it has its name on it. So, since I am alreasy paying them too much money for apartment - I think I can use their internet a little bit. Can they see who taps into their network

I tried it though and it ask me to configure connections. When I follow the instructions - I can not get on the internet. Is there is anything else I need to do

I think I will most likely get my own internet, but I am guessing I will have this priblem as well. I kow I did when I wanted to use my in-laws network. It was password protected, but they told me what it is and all and when I get in it took me through steps and when i click OK it does nothing.

Do i have to set up some profiles or something?

Yes, they can see who is using their wireless network. Yes, it is illegal, regardless of if they encrypt their network. Get your own internet connection. I certainly (and I'm sure most other members would agree) won't help you configure your computer so you can leech from your neighbors.

    guess what guys?

it's illegal because you're taking something you're not paying for.
