Hey, I have an a Vista laptop and an XP desktop and would like to share files between them both, i've looked on youtube for videos on how to do it, but do you think I can do it?... NO! lol!
Does anyone know of a step by step guide that is simple, and works? Ive been trying for ages and failing miserably - its not the computers fault (obviously) its ME the user!

Ah I've come across a small problem, I think its XPHome so it always set to 'use simple file sharing' - do I just carry on like normal?

Also in this part of the guide:
    ------------------------------------------------------------------
For Windows XP Home Users: From this point, pick which folder you want to share and right-click on it. From the menu, select Sharing and Security. You’ll get a box that will show the folder sharing options. Click the box that says, "Share this Folder on the Network". For ease of use, also select the box next to "Allow Network Users to Change my Files." Do this to all drives or folders you want to share. From there, Windows XP Home is ready to share files with other computers that are connected to the same network.
    ------------------------------------------------------------------

I cant find that check box :(

On your XP machine, click control panel (make sure it's using the "Catagory" view), then click network and internet connections, then network setup wizard (on the bottom), click yes, use the existing shared connection, keep clicking next until it says file and printer sharing, click "turn on file and printer sharing", then click next until it's done then restart your PC. Now your Shared documents folder will be automatically shared over the network.

On the vista machine click start, type "network and" (without quotes) press enter, then on the top left click "view computers and devices"

Now after this loads, find the name of the other PC, click that, then click documents, and drop whatever files you want on the other PC in there and vice versa, and it will be in shared documents on the other PC.

I personally have never found the need to share any more folders than the default shared documents folder for transferring files between computers, but if you want to share more folders than that, right click any file, click properties, then sharing, and then check the boxes to enable network sharing of this folder. And I don't know how I could be any more strait forward than that.
