    Hi all,
I've been reading the threads on Home Networks and File sharing but so far have been unsuccessful in setting one up. My setup is as follows:
Desktop is wired to router, which is wired to cable modem.
    Laptop connects wirelessly to router.
Router is Linksys WRT54G, both computers are running XP Home.
    Laptop IP: 192.168.1.100
    Desktop IP: 192.168.1.101

I've run the Network wizard on both computers and the Computer Names are Desktop, Laptop and the Workgroup name is MSHOME (which appears as Mshome). On the laptop when I go to view workgroup computers, I can only see the laptop and for the desktop I can only see the desktop. My laptop can ping the desktop but my desktop can't ping the laptop.

I've turned off the Windows firewalls for both and still can't see the other computer. I'm not sure if I've chosen the correct settings for the network wizard, that is, when it asks what type of internet connection I have setup. I selected "...connected to a residential gateway..." (the second option) for both computers. I'm thinking this is correct?

I'm not sure what else to try. Thanks in advance and for reading this.

Eek, sharing files is a pain in Home.

I'm not sure on this one. What was the other option in Network Wizard? I havn't run it in a long time...

This is more than likely a firewall issue. You need make sure that the IP adress of the laptop is trusted by the desktop firewall and vice versa.
