Okay so we have the main computer downstairs where the modem is located. The modem is connected to a netgear router, which the main computer is hooked up to. From that netgear router, there is an internet cord connecting it to another router [linksys] in my room. My laptop is connected to that router. [no wireless internet yet] I have to currently print a lot of papers for school and its extremely tedious having to email my documents to myself and then going downstairs on the other computer, redownloading the document, and printing from there. I've been trying to setup the network to share the printer, but i cant figure out how to do it since they use two different routers. I'm not exactly the most techinical person around, but I know some things. Any help is apprecited, thanks.

    The basic steps:

Go to the computer and share the printer.
Put both computers on the same workgroup.
Configure the software firewalls on the computers to allow printer/file sharing.

There are a few guides on this board, so I recommend spending some time reviewing them.

And I believe you also need to install the printer driver....if I can do it, YOU can definitely do it !!!

On your linksys router you need it setup as a switch. To do that is assign it a static IP address outside the Netgear DHCP range on the internet/ISP/WAN port. Then turn of DHCP. Connect the cable from your netgear (lan) to linksys LAN. Now all of your DHCP will be handled by the Netgear, and your linksys is now used as a switch. If you need to access the Netgear admin use the static IP.

This should not be needed, but makes life easier in the long run. With ever thing on the same subnet. Dasie chaining routers makes the lower networks more secure due to double firewall, keeping the higher level out. But can cause problems when it comes to file sharing and printer sharing.
