Hello I am on my laptop, and the server computer (the one that is connected to all of the network things. ie router, printer, hard drive) is only in the next room and regardless of what I can do with just connecting the hd itself to my laptop I want to be able to access files on the network. I type in the address of the computer its connected too and that works, I see the drive (G: ) and I can access just about all of the things except the user profiles and music (this is an old hd that was in my laptop and i upgraded it) It says that it is not accesibile and I do not have permission yada yada so whats up? o btw my laptop is xp pro and the other computer is home, also I have "shared" the drive on the network so where is there anything else that I need to allow?

For music, iTunes has an option that you must mark in preferences to share the files. Don't know about MS, I think there is Update for Digital Rights that may be needed.

You cannot access any files or directories that belong to a user (ie: Documents and Settings\xxx\), unless you are that user. It's slightly more difficult to share things between Home and Pro, since Home isn't a networking OS ("crippled" is what I would call it).

Move the files you want to share into another drive on the "server" computer, like the D: drive. You'll be able to share that new directory.
