Iv just bought a new Studio 17, and im trying to set it up so that i can stream files & music from my main computer onto my laptop.

The laptop is running Windows 7, and the desktop Vista Prem x64.

So far iv selected the HDDs and set them to share, and when i log onto my laptop & go through the network options i can see all the HDDs, but when i select them it tells me access is denied. Despite not setting any passwords/security options it still denies me access to the drives.

I don't spose anyone could shed any light on it could they?

    thanks guys

you have permissions on each and every folder in your os. they block unknown user accounts. so if you have different username/passwords on both systems that may be a reason.

(these permissions have nothing to do with the shares per se. but obviously only get really noted in a multiuser/multicomputer environment)

The easiest thing to do is make sure both computers belong to the same workgroup, and then create identical logins/passwords on both computers. Next, make sure you are sharing a directory outside of the "my documents" folder. Finally, right click on the folder you want to share, select properties, go to the sharing tab, and share out the folder. Things should start working after that.

You don't really share complete drives - it's always better to share individual folders (permissions are different for root directories). Also, unless you set up a media server, you won't be streaming content from your desktop - you'll just be sharing the various folders so the laptop can access them.
