Hi, I recently upgraded (?) to Vistas and I was wondering if it had a good share monitor (is this the right term?) available to it. By share monitor I mean something like System Tray Share Monitor, which I used when I ran XP. Thanks!

Still don't have a clue on what your needing. Graphic cards normally have a System tray that can be loaded to give you quick access to it's settings. So this is provided by the card mfg or the NB mfg.

I think he means something to view shared folders blue! I'm guessing that seeing that he posted this in Network and Wireless. If so OP I don't know of any third party software that shows u ur shares, but I know u can view ur shares in XP by goin into Computer Management. I'm not sure if .Vista has this as well but u can check.

thanks for the replies so far. I am looking for something that can help me view who is accessing my shared files at the moment (and possibly kick them off if I desire). Anyone know of a good program for Vistas, if one exists at all?

Like my post above...you can do that....Vista should have the same built-in feature. Or u don't want to use the built-in?

If you setup security on your share you can limit who access them without having to monitor it all the time.

Thanks for the answers so far. Well, I am on a college network and I was just interested in seeing who accessed my files and what they looked at. I was able to do so on my old laptop (with XP) using System Tray Share Monitor but my new laptop runs on Vistas and I was wondering if Vistas had the same program. Looks like it does not so far.

You should be able to view activity on your shares using the Shared Folders snap-in to the Computer Management Console, as discussed briefly in this TechRepublic Article.
