Okay so my father got his laptop and I'm not configuring the network.

My desktop, wich is connected with a LAN cable on my Dlink D521 (or something like that) is using Vista Ultimate

The laptop is using WinXP Home

I've succesfully connected the laptop wirelessly so internet works.

But now, how do I set up so I can access one computer through the other one and that my printer will work on the laptop?

    Thanks!

PS: I've enabled all the sharing options on Vista

on your dads laptop go under control panel and click "setup network" click the next, then click the "other" option. Select "connect to the internet through a hub" create a network name (your name, or i like to just use MSHOME) remember it tho because you need to set the same on your desktop. On your desktop running ultimate right click on "Computer" click properties, then click "advanced settings" go under the computer name tab, click the button that says "change" and make the workgroup name the same as your dads network name (case sensitive!) After you restart both computers click "view workgroup computers" under your network and sharing center. your dads computer should show up.

Just to continue with Dean Wessel's post, you've also got to enable printer sharing. So I think just right-click on your printer that you want to share (I assume it's connected to the ultimate machine) and just go to Sharing or something similar. Set a share name.

Then, on your dad's laptop, navigate to your ultimate computer. You should hopefully see the printer with the share name you just set. Double click on it and it should install the drivers for you.

Finally, when all that is done, don't forget to select that printer when you choose to print! ;)

    Yeah I did all that.

From Ultimate, I can see the laptop but when I try to acces it, it says "invalid computer name". Should I retry but with the IP adress?

Also, do you know how could I setup it so I can make have access to the other computer's HDD through one of the computer? I have this at schools and my friend has it at his house

    Thanks guys

EDIT: I think I've found out. I just have to enable sharing the drive's properties right?

Oh and, to access the computers, people still need to be connected to my router with the WEP/WPA key right?

Hey, could the "invalid host name" be because my dad's computers name has an accent on it?

EDIT2: Okay, when I go in "view workgroup computers) on the laptop, it tells me "You do not have the access rights to the workgroup, please contact your network administrator"

XP Home doesn't interoperate well with XP Professonal or Vista.

Check Firewall Settings on both computers.
