    Hi.

    I have the following.

One laptop on XP Sp3 (w/ Printer connected)
    One laptop on Vista Sp1

They both connect to the internet via my wireless router.

I am using DSL > Wireless Router.

Here is my question. How do I set up a share folder on both computers? How can I share them so from either one computer I am able to transfer files to and from each other. Is this possible to share folders and transfer them via wireless? What would I need to change?

What do I need to do so I can see the notebooks's share folder?

Also since one laptop (XP) has the printer connected am I able to connect to my printer (wireless) from my other laptop?

    Thanks all

Also, make sure you set the folder to share right clicking on the folder, and selecting the appropriate privileges.

On my XP laptop it said I do not need to install this because I have SP3 installed

I also changed the Workgroup to WORKGROUP. I had to make this change on my XP laptop because my Vista laptop would not allow me to change my workgroup!!? It is grayed out. I am using Vista Home Premium.

Anyway.. In XP laptop I created a folder named "SharedFolder". Right click and Sharing Tab..Under Network sharing and security> I checked thare this folder on the network.

However I do not see my sharefolder in my Vista laptop.

Also I should note I want to share files and be able to print via wireless. My printer is connected to my XP laptop but I want to be able to print from my Vista laptop via wiress. Is this possible?

    thx

I am able to see my ShareFolder on my XP computer VIA "My Network Places". On Vista I have shared my "Public" folder however I am unable to see my it when I goto Network (Start>Network). Shouldn't I at least see my own ShareFOlder like XP?

My workgroup is correct on both computers. anyone?

Networking VISTA/XP has been pretty finnicky for me.

What I usually do when I am having problems is Create a new network on both computers (same workgroup) and reboot.

Also, instead of looking for the computer you can type it's address in manually

go to Windows Explorer and type in:
    "//computerName"

    ...see if that helps.

Have you tried googling on your problem yet? Seems like a lot of other people have the same problem. There do seem to be a variety of different solutions, probably because there are various reasons for not being able to see the XP machine on the _Vista machine.

Several fora threads that seem to have some useful avenues are:

There's also a Microsoft TechNet article on _Vista file-sharing and the differences between that and XP file-sharing, BB727037.
