I recently got my desktop, however win7 and belkin draft n dongle are not functional. However atm im trying to connect to the net via my laptop. I have a crossover ethernet cable, however i am unable to setup a connection, on both ends its says "unidentified network", I have already set my settings for Sharing and dont see where the problem is.

Im guessing the issue could be my laptop is vista and desktop win7. Also i tried to create a home group but that too was unsuccessful since IPV6 was disabled

Thank you for the help, if there is any link or info that too would be helpful

How are you trying to connect the NB? NB directly to ISP?
ISP connection is it dsl, cable, fios...
Do you use use a modem?

Router not working? why besides being a belikin

I see no need for a crossover cable, unless your doing a direct connect to the desktop. But then the desktop needs to connect via wireless or a second wired port.

Check your firewall setting on the desktop.

You need to setup Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) for that setup to work on the notebook. I would probably work on getting the desktop to work. It would be a better solution for your setup. Sharing a connection slows both pc down.

If you have the router setup correctly any pc connected through the router will work. If it does not in most cases it's a firewall issue.

Is there any reason your not using a wired connection for desktop?
