For sometime now i've wanted to set up a wireless connection in my house. I tried setting it up before but i had to have one computer on if i wanted the wireless connection to be active. I noticed at my friends house, he had a router or something that was all by itself and wasn't hooked up to a computer. I was just wondering how i would do that with my computer/connection, since the only way i know how to connect is by entering a username and password on my computer. Is there a special modem that i would need to get from my internet provider, or could i do it with something else?

    Please help.

btw, i have a dsl connection from sbc if that helps.

That 'special modem' you mention is called a Router. Basically, you connect your modem to your Router and then connect your computers to the Router. There are several topics covering the specifics.

you would need a dsl modem which has an ethernet port to connect to the wireless router, usb modems don't work with routers

You need an ISP or Internet service provider, they can setup everything for you. If they wont setup wireless for you, look for a wireless router with WPA and 802.11g standard at your local electronics store. Follow the directions on how to install or call the routers tech support; or come back when you have the part so we can decipher how to configure whichever brand you get.
