For some reason or another, my residence internet at my university won't let me log on to a particular game who's server is located in Germany. I need help to find a good proxy program so that I can set it up to proxy through a server, so that I can connect to the game.

    Thanks in advance.

PS: I'm not sure what section this should have gone in so I put it in networking.

I need clarification. Do you want to set up your own proxy server or do you want to connect to another one that already exists.

Oh sorry, I just want to connect to another one, but I'm not sure what program to use.

There are many websites that offer this...you can browse your page through their page. Just google free proxy and go to one of those sites. They should have a place to put in your url and then it will browse to it through their site. (just dont do anything illegal - they can track you down still. Also dont do anything confidential because remember your traffic is going through them as a middle man now for those sites).

You don't understand, I don't want to browse the internet via a proxy, I can do that super easily. I want to be able to tunnel most of connection through a proxy so I can connect to my game, and I've come to understand a client side program is required for that.

I've read about some people who played some japanese game that was localized to japan only, but they used proxies to make it look like they where connecting from japan when they lived out of the country. It never said what program they used, or how they set it up, and I forgot the name of the game, but in principle its the exact same thing I want to do.

Not knowing the game you are playing makes answering the question difficult. Why do people ask questions and parse out information critical to the solution? Drives me nuts.

How do you "know" that the problem you are having is a proxy server? It is far more likely a firewall blocking a port needed by the game.

I know because I've already tested all the ports, resnet doesn't block any ports. The game is darkfall, but that won't help you in one bit. You people are overcomplicating it for no reason, I don't need everyone to second guess what I'm doing. I don't know if it will work, but right now I'm willing to try, because I figured out it's not a corrupted file, and its not ports being blocked. So now I'm assuming my resnet isn't allocating enough bandwidth to the game since the server is in germany, and it's only a theory, that's why I want to test it.

All I wanted was someone to help me find a client side proxy program, I can see where that might have confused you.

Darkfall is already being called "the most troubled launch in the history of gaming" and you are saying we are over complicating things?

The game was released, what, this week? And so far I've seen nothing but server communication problem complaints -- indeed, it even looks like they shut the server down to work on it.

According to a post on their forum

Your problem is not that we are confused or that your resnet is blocking anything or you need a client size proxy program. Your problem is that the developers were overwhelmed when they took the game from beta to live (and maybe that you're a little arrogant and inadequate when asking for help).

So, knowing the game DID help one bit...

kuram, I've wrote some article about proxy server configuring. Here it is: HandyCache configuring. There are many screenshots with some comments

    Thanks Fuzzy, alot!

Gerry, I played during the beta perfectly fine. Darkfall is one of the smoothest mmo launches I've seen. Compare it to when WoW came out, and you'll agree with me. I have a friend whos been playing as well, and he agrees with me, he told me the sync issues is the only real problem, and its only been 2 days.

I don't think you even know what a sync issue is, all it really is is that the character models sometimes wont keep up, but combat was perfectly fine you just have to keep an eye out for blood splatters. It has nothing to do with my inability to connect to the server at all. I had this same error during the beta once i got back to my resnet, it gave me the exact same error. I can tell from your response that your probably a regular at mmorpg.com, and if not, you've never heard of the game until i mentioned it, googled it, and looked at the first page you saw when the forums opened up. You don't impress me, so go away cause you arent helping my problem.

Actually looked at several forums and news sites and they all said the same thing.

Looked at how Darkfall works with firewalls.

And looked at the fact that darkfall's servers were off line--kind of hard to play a game when the server is off line, I always say, but what do I know?

Playing during a controlled beta and during a launch are two different things...give it a week and you will probably play just fine without a client side proxy.

I will go away now, but one piece of advice. Look for the simplest solution for a problem first.
