My current router is a Verizon Fios one with only a/b/g, so I bought the TP-Link WDR4300 to get wireless N and fully utilize my 75 down/35 up speed.
I plugged the ethernet cable from a LAN port on the Fios router to the internet port on the TP-Link router and both 5GHz and 2.4GHz work. I set 2.4 and 5 GHz with the same SSID. Is that a mistake?
An article I read said to disable DHCP on the Fios router and a bunch of other stuff but then another article said other stuff, so I'm not really sure what to do... The TP-Link router seems to be working fine without doing anything else.
Are there any other settings I should change? If there's a way to disable the Fios router wireless network, that's fine because that won't get used at all now.
    Thanks in advance!

What you're trying to do is set up a TP-Link as an access point- not as a router since all routing would still be done by Verizon device.

See this article on how to do it. Access point should not have DHCP enabled and NAT should be switched off.

It won't let me change the LAN IP address of the TP-link router (The access point) and it says:
    Error code: 5008
WAN IP address and LAN IP address cannot be in a same subnet. Please input another IP address.

I changed the DHCP range of the Fios router to 192.168.1.100 - 254 so it gave the TP-Link (access point) a WAN IP address of 192.168.1.155. The LAN IP address is 192.168.0.1 and I've tried changing it to 192.168.1.2 or 50 and it gives me that same error.

Also, do I want the Access point and the router to have the same SSID?

You can change the subnet from 255.255.255.0 to something else like 255.255.0.0 (although admittedly that recommendation has not been thought through since I'm headed to bed).

As for the SSID- it should be different otherwise your notebooks may connect to the FIOS device instead of your newly appointed AP. It would be best to disable Wi-Fi on FIOS altogether or it it's impossible keep wireless channel used by FIOS far away from the one used by TP-Link. Otherwise two devices standing (I assume) very close will produce massive interference on 2.4GHz band.
