    Setting Peer To Peer

    Hey guys can i use a regular ethernet wire to make a lan connection? Like use one end of the ethernet and plug it in to computer and one into laptop and sharefiles between the two computers? If so do i need certain softer or enable anything?

    you will need cross over cable if you mean laptop to desktop ethernet

    Or purchase a router, so both pc's can be online at the same time. Then all you need is std ethernet cables. You will also need to have file share turned on.

    damn is there a way i can tell my regular ethernet wire is cross over other then checking the ends? It just reg dsl telus ethernet wire (blue)

    The cable you have is most likely not a cross over cable...most people don't have them in their homes. Do you have a router in your home to split the internet between computers?

    nah i dont have a router, i just got my laptop yesterday but right now i am at my friends house and i have question how do i find his wireless connection so i can connect to it?

    double click the computer icon in your taskbar "bottom right" then click refresh, if he is broadcasting his SSID then you should see his network connection

    to check the cable look at the wires in the connector. If they match (pin out) it's a std cable. Crossover have wires crossed.

    yeah the wire my friend brought over is crossed. we are both on vista 32 bith we both have our laptops connnected now what???????
