    Hey NotebookReview.com Forums Members,

I have a D-Link wireless router connected to a desktop computer, and I have a laptop which connects to the wireless router.

I just wish to set up a password on the desktop computer so that it would be a bit more secure. So that each time I wanna access the net with the laptop I just type in the password and I know for sure nobody else around the area is using my internet bandwidth.

How do I set it up on the Windows XP SP2 ?

Is there any software out there which is good to use for wireless internet to tweak very easy.

    Hope to hear feedback,

    Shaun (aka Xonnie316)

You'll need to enable some kind of encryption (wep or wpa) in your wireless router. You set a passphrase or code and any wireless connection wanting access to your network must supply the code. (wired computers will not)

go into an internet browser and type your default gateway (probably 192.168.1.1) and enter the username/password. If you look around in the wireless settings you'll probably find what you need.

If you need more help, just reply to this post.

To secure you laptop add a password to you user id. The set the screen saver to prompt every time it comes out of sleep.

The wpa key is used to establish communication with the router from your AP. So security must be setup on the router and the changes made to your settings. And Make sure you change the def password or its mute.
