Hey all. Not sure the correct subforum to post this.

I would like a camera where i put it right on desk where i don't need to do any type of tough installation where you have to put wiring or anything like this. Im in a small studio apartment and my door is a glass door. Where im located, the apartments almost all have glass see through doors. Of course you have curtains to cover it etc. I want a camera there where i would be able to check from my phone if someone were to come into my apartment and basically just so i could view my apartment from my phone.

Does anyone have any recommendations? This is one i saw on amazon. Is this the one i want for my small studio apartment? Its a very tiny apartment. But i would want to see it when im outside the apartment etc.

    https://www.amazon.com/TENVIS-Wirel...&s=gateway&sprefix=security+c,aps,248&sr=8-13

Also what other equipment would i need? I would need a micro sd slot right? How many would i need and how big? The other questions i have is this

    1. Say i start recording it right now... how long can i have the footage to? For example i believe you can only record up to a few hours or so? Then what happens? Example say im out of the apartment for a week or so. Does it continue recording the entire time? I would need a micro sd slot for it right? How big gb would i need for it to record? Does one need to erase the old footage so there is more space for the new footage?

    2. What if i wanted to record it for up to 1 month if im not at the apartment? Could that be done or that won't be possible? So basically how long can you be away for from the apartment because you have to check on it?

    3. So would i need any motion detector or anything like that for this? This does not have it right? So for example, if im not at apartment, is there a way for me to get an alert if my apartment door has been opened or anything like that?

I also could view whats being seen on my camera on my iphone at any time on my iphone right? Also if im outside the apartment, i need to have data on my phone to view it right? Thus in order to view whats going on in the iphone... you need wifi or data activated to view what the camera is recording or not?

Should i also want 1080p and not 720p as the one i posted above?

I'd recommend a Nest cam. Try chatting with them and asking some of your questions.

Hi there. I took a look at that and its pretty expensive. I want something very basic.

Also curious but i have an old logitech c600 webcam that i bought many years ago. From what i read online, i could actually use this webcam as a security camera? But if i do that, can i check everything on my iphone? But this has to require me to have my computer on 24/7 right since i have it connected to a usb port on my laptop? However, i also have a chromebook as well. I mean if i have my laptop turned on 24/7, i would not like this as this is my windows laptop. But could i set it up with my chromebook instead? That i would be fine with having it on 24/7.

With that old webcam, you can't just have it connected to an outlet right? Thus you need it connected to a laptop? But not sure if chromebook supports this though?

Drew, based on your other questions, go for an easy option like WhatsThePoint or I suggested. Otherwise you'll be right back here asking more questions.

I would also recommend against cheaping out - if you go with the cheapest most generic option, it's hard to know whether or not it has some sort of large security hole or built in back door that others could take advantage of.

Hey there. Well the wyze seem to have security issues as i read few top reviews say its hacked. But someone else mentioned they have 2 of them with no issue and said those hack reviews came from 25 people though. So its like okay well look how many got that issue.

Do you have any opinion on using an old logitech c600 webcam to use as security camera? I have this at the moment and then realized... from googling you could use old webcam and even phone as security camera.

I would recommend an option with support. If you set this all up yourself, you'll need to understand it well enough to troubleshoot it.

Yeah, and that’s simply not going to happen here.

Next thread is probably going to be “how do I stream the Logitech c600 to my phone?”

I totally agree on the wyze cam. I have two v1's and they are decent.
They have auto-motion sense and a free 2-week rotating cloud storage for alerts. you can also manually record to micro sd. It has built in IR which is decent enough to see whats going on in an average household room at night. There is no web browser access, so you have to use the app to view cams or footage. they are powered by micro-usb to wall wart, so you can use a cell phone charger to power them. They aren't perfect though, a lot of times the live stream can be choppy or lag.
For $20 you can't go wrong.

Im confused but there are 2 versions of this? One is version 1 and the other is version 2? The amazon one is version 2. Which is the one i want? Also why is v1 only 20 bucks on the wyze site? So that is cheaper than v2?

Okay so there is some ground shipping if you buy it off wyze and price comes to around same price as amazon right? So basically buying from either wyze site or amazon is basically same thing? But getting it on amazon is better if you have prime?

Do i need to get one of those micro sd cards though? If so, do i need 32gb, 64gb, 128gb or 256gb? I dont want to buy it if not necessary. I read wyze records up to 14 days to the cloud right? So if thats the case, why would i need a micro sd card assuming i am in the apartment usually? Im confused with this because i read a 32gb records only 200 minutes? So the 64gb records 400 minutes? Thats not even a half a day so i dont understand the purpose of these micro sd cards? I mean is it for if you want to record only when you aren't home manually? Example record when you are out 2 hours or so and come back? But whats the purpose if you have that 14 day recording thing on the cloud?

How bout a blink camera system, you can get away with one, and or upgrade it later to 10 cameras as the need arises. Totally wire free, nearly 2 years of battery life (replaceable) mountable (wherever you feel like) and now Alexa (although I have no use of her). Yo can get infra red and regular cameras and the sensitivity is pretty good on detection (they now have editable zones).

I backed blink when it was an indie company, and from the first set to the new XT they have never let me down. My only hope was they would make Apple compatible but that’s a bonus for me

Your HC1 card should work fine

Do you have a USB card reader?

Put the micro sd card in the reader and attach it to a pc usb port.

You can then see if it is formatted and if there is anything on the card that you may want to keep.

If all is well format the sd card as fat32 and then try it in the new camera.

When placed in the camera, the camera may want to also format it.

Let the camera format the card if needed.

I have several older micro sd cards that still work fine.
