Is this possible or would it have bricking potential? I don't see why it would but but wanted to ask around before I attempt. I'd like to get DDWRT onto a WRT54G using a guest install of Windows.

Safe as long as you use a wired connection. However, you want to be extra careful when you flash the bootloader.

Can you elaborate more on 'extra care' please? I'll be doing it wired to the router and on a computer with a UPS.

If you're wired and both the computer and router are on a UPS, you'll be fine. The biggest problems with firmware flashing are lack of patience and loss of power.

If the VM crashes, goodbye router.
