I upgraded my 4965agn wireless to an Intel 5300, no matter how I swap the antenna's, I get some noise during use (crackling/static, through the speaker?).

If I turn off the sound, it still comes through. I tried swapping the leads, every combination possible. Still happens, some have more, some have less. I have heard that it only needs 2 antenna, but the only one that stops the noise is disconnecting the white lead, which drops the signal significantly.

Has anyone dealt with this and how did they fix it? I have heard it is poor shielding on the card, fine, but how do you fix that?

I experienced same problem when upgrading my SZ75GN to Wifi Link 5300. Yes, the problem is with the white cable. The 5300's signal is too strong I guess, and the white cable ended below the power button circuit board, just too near to right speaker. While the gray and black lead ended at top of LCD panel, far away from speaker circuity.

I think to solve the static noise problem, the white lead end should relocated to around top of LCD panel. But the cable is too short, so I ordered New Tyco Antenna. Still waiting to arrive.

Hope this will give you an idea... Stuck with 5100 for now...

In Sony the white antenna head is placed in notebook's body I believe.
Solution: place it in LCD bezel like the other 2, the noise will begone :)
PS. you may need to replace it since the wire is too short.. or try to place it elsewhere far from speaker

Edit: didnt read the 2nd post frm ctantra LOL ...
