    :(

I recently got 24mbps Internet. I bought a Linksys WRT54GL and flashed it with Tomato right out of the box. Everything seemed fine from the get-go.

I downloaded the Windows 7 Beta from Microsoft at 1.3 MB/s, as with DOD:S via Steam.

However, when I try downloading torrents (uTorrent), I cannot get past 10k/s !!

My previous all-in-one generic modem/router combo from my ISP could get me up to 400k/s easy. I have no idea what's going on.

I've changed port forwarding, enabled and disabled UPnP, and even applied the half-open patch (although I'm sure this isn't the issue).

What am I missing and what is going on? How can I download from normal servers at over a meg a second, but am getting 128k modem speeds on torrents? I don't have this problem when I hop on other access points I can connect to in my building.

Have you checked any available QoS settings?

I haven't touched any QoS settings and would assume the default values would not cause 10k download speeds. What should I address?

I don't know Tomato, but I do know that assuming anything about default settings is a recipe for disaster. I would, at the very least, get to know what all of the settings are and what their default values are - that may give you an idea as to whether or not a particular setting is limiting your download speeds.

I mean I have a pretty good idea of everything I need to do involving the settings (which are by no means default right now, just no QoS settings), and port forwarding, as well as uTorrent settings. Nothing is working.

    I am currently downloading Half-Life 2 with steam @ 1.5 MB/s. Incredible for what I'm used to. Seeing torrents crawl @ .2 - 10 k is frustrating me.

Ok, here's an idea I just nicked from this MacForums post regarding slow torrents - have you enabled both TCP and UDP for the port forwarding?

    yep :)

I have tweaked some settings within the torrent client and got up to ~90k, but still. That's nothing

It can be at the fault of the seeder, he could have a slow connection. Try a couple others, and see if it goes higher. Disabling NAT on the router will usually give you more speed. What is Tomato? Im guessing custom Firmware? Try going back to the regular FW. Make sure you have newest drivers for your wireless card in the laptop as well.

At least thats what ive heard ;)

PS: An N Router will also be much better for speed.

I've been choosing some of the most popular torrents as testing, where seeders shouldn't be an issue. My internet is supposed to be 24mbps down 2.5 up, speedtest hits me back with around 13mbps, and 2 up. I seemed to have topped out at 150k so far. This isn't horrid but I've experienced 200-300k on lower rated internet and worse routers.

Look into another App, definitely give uTorrent a shot, it is above and beyond most other Applications out there.

I am using uTorrent. I have also tried Bitcomet- to no avail.
