All of a sudden, whenever I plug in an active lan cable to my ethernet port on my Asus S96j, the network connection gets hung up at: Aqcuiring Network Address, and then says it has Limited or No Connectivity. I have tried it on multiple sources that work with other computers perfectly. I reinstalled the ethernet driver and that didnt help. Any ideas?

router? did you config it.. also try this.. on the router goto the status and disconnect it then re connect it...

if its the actual computer try enabling the services for your ISP.. IE things that should start arent starting.. goto msconfig and check to see that the ISP software is loading.. then goto right click mycomputer goto services and make sure that all the correct services are running..

limited or no connectivity means that there is a connect and ur ethernet port is working, but something is blocking it from recieving the internet.. check firewalls, router firewalls, computer firewalls, windows firewall make sure nothing is blocking tcp/and udp connections.. also goto start run cmd then type ipconfig

then see the thing that says "internet ip"? type ping in the console and ping that ip see if you get a respondse if not then your not getting any internet and your ethernet port ment be broken.

Might have had some static that fried your ethernet port on the machine? Try setting a static IP on the card, and see if you can get access without trying DHCP. The DHCP signal is kinda flaky in some cases. You might also try upgrading or downgrading the driver.

Thanks for the suggestions. However, I fixed this by trying some of the steps I found on this site: http://www.pchell.com/support/limitedconnectivity.shtml . The one that did it for me was changing the Link Speed/ Duplex Mode from Auto to 100mb/ Full Duplex in the Advanced settings of my network adapter. Weird that this just happened out of nowhere.

It happens on the S96, random drops in speed and network. If you updated the wireless driver and the Gigabit Ethernet driver, no more weird random dropoffs.
