I posted earlier about my router overheating. I sent it in for an RMA and got a new (refurb) unit back. It had the same issue.... well, we just can't have that, can we?

    Fixed.

    Oh man.

This makes me want to do all types of things. But how could you tell that it was overheating?

I think maybe this should be moved to the custom builds section :D

I don't think those routers put out 65w of heat to require such a cooler...

Definitely not, although some routers do tend to get quite toasty with their stock passive cooling. Never thought this would be necessary though :p

    It is an overkill
This is sufficient IMO. Routers are not high performance device that need active cooling.

Certain routers come with small sinks just swap them for big sinks will do.
    Active Cooling consumes power.

That, though raising the router half an inch higher than it is usually fixes the problem. What's next, liquid N2 cooled router? Plugging and unplugging cables on that... :eek2:

EDIT: I guess dry ice would be easier and cheaper to get than liquid nitrogen and still provide wicked cooling.

actually, we once put 16 24 port managed switches and a couple routers in an old freezer since their racks had crappy cooling. now cutting holes for cables was a bit fun ......necessity is the mother of all invention

When I was digging through my boxes of parts, that was the exact thing I said when I saw this cooler :D. I passed up tons of small laptop fans and heat sinks. This just made me smile, so why not?

I blow the dust out of mine once a week and have a couple of pencils under it for airflow.
