    Hello,

I have very strange and annoying problem who cant deal with it. So decided to share it here, hopefully someone will came up with some sort of solution.

Recently upgraded my connection from wired to wireless at my parrents home and something strange happen. I have two notebooks - one HP 530 and other Lenovo Thinkpad T510. On my HP 530 by default is installed Intel Pro Wireless 3945ABG wireless card and on the Lenovo is RealTek 11b/g/n Wireless LAN Mini-PCI Express Adapter II. The router is Belkin N150 (F9K1009) with his default firmware v1 (there are no actual updates for it I already check).

The problem is: when I connect with HP the speed on laptop dropdown to 2-2,5MB/s. When I connect with the Lenovo is around 10MB/s. Months ago when the HP was my main laptop I use wireless connection at my student accomodation with SMC SMCWBR14S-N4 and I manage to get stable 4MB/s on it. Here with the Belkin's router I can't get more than 2.5MB in best case scenarios.

I tried everything - updating wireless card drivers, changing the channel, starting protected mode in case of interfierence, cut off useless services, stop UPnP, switching various modes and nothing helps.

There is no problem here - your HP uses a card that is not capable of 802.11n speeds. It's limited to 54mbps (802.11g) of theoretical throughput which in reality is exactly what you report - up to 2.5MB/s in good signal conditions.

It's impossible to go any faster on 802.11g connection.

As for how you have achieved 4MB/s on it - can't explain that. It's impossible on 802.11g network for sure.

You can fiddle with settings all you like but to get any faster than 2.5MB/s you need to be on 802.11n network and that is impossible with Intel 3945ABG card.

Hello downloads, and thanks for your explanation.

Looks like I'll have to upgrade wireless card with something that support N standart in order to get more speed. I already check for wireless N card for this laptop and it turns out I can't upgrade existing one with another (newer standart). So I'll get TP Link TL-WN725N and use it when I'm here.

Once again thanks for your help.
