    Hello,

I have a dlink wireless router with firewall function, could I use it instead of a software firewall? if yes is it easy to configure?

    Thanks all

What he is trying to say. A routers Firewall only allows request made by the pc to come into your network. So if you are infected with a virus/adware it will continue to work, and effect others. Software firewall control which programs can access the net. So even if your AV did not catch it, the software firewall should popup a warning telling you ????? is trying to access the internet, do you want to grant access. Here you must know some knowledge on what the program is. If you blatenly select yes to grant access. It's not any better than a hardware (routers) firewall.

The bottom line is, if you are clean and careful on the sites you visit, a hardware firewall will work just fine. I ran a test years a go use both. Over a 9 mo period I had nothing get through the routers firewall that required the SW Firewall to prompt or log any activity.

I recommend running BOTH, particularly if its a laptop.
