    Hi,
I recently got the Netgear WGT624 wireless router and it works fine for normal surfing but when it comes to downloading something, for some reason it's extremly slow. It's not only slow for my laptop but also for my desktop as it's wire connected to the router. It wasn't like this when I was only using the modem with my desktop. :(

Even when receiving normal files from my friends through MSN, it goes at around 1kb/s where it previously used to be around 100-200+kbs/s. None of the file sharing software works right now including KaZaa, Limewire, Morpheus, and others like these. And as for torrents, they never worked for me from the begining.

Can anyone suggest a possible solution to this problem?
    Any help is appreciated.

    Thanks

it seems strange that torrents have never worked for you even though limewire, kazaa etc has since both operate on p2p ports. i'm not a wireless expert but it might be a good idea to use your modem again and see if you still get the same problem - if not, something maybe blocking the ports

Go to dslreports.com and run there tweek test under tools. Sound like you MTU is set to high. Had the same problem, DSL should be set at 1492.

    Another good site is speedguide.net

I just went through something similar today. I upgraded my dsl from pro to elite, 3 mbs, to 6 mbs. My router couldn't handle it it turns out. I had the wgu624. Now I'm not saying you router is shot but mine was a problem. Direct connect from the modem, it would fly but through the router, forget it. I bought tonight the Netgear 834 and it now flies! I'm sitting in the backyard right now about 150 ft. from router and just ran a speed test on dslreports. 5.1 mbs dl and 635 upload. The freakin router was major cash (139) but so far it is well worth it. Good luck. Hopefully it is just your MTU settings like mentioned above.
